  • That’s not Satan, that’s the snake. Satan’s just an asshole who does God’s bidding testing and tempting people like he did with Job. And it’s not the same as the nake or lucifer.
The ‘snake’ was the one who told Eve that God was lying to them, and that they would not die if they ate the forbidden fruit. This one is the cool guy who’s the equivalent of Prometheus.
Lucifer isn’t even in the bible at all. It’s a Roman mythical explanation for Venus because it was something bright that appeared sometimes in the sky, and it somehow got conflated with the bad versions of the “morning star” mentioned in the bible later. Funny enough, Jesus is also referred as “morning star” too. Also the King of Babylon, I think. “Morning star” may be just a saying to describe a characteristic, not a character, like “you are a rising star”.

  • It’s not a dichotomy. Capitalism inevitably leads to oligarchy, and oligarchies are just authoritarianism rich people being the ones opressing the people. Both China and Russia ended up as oligarchies too, even though they started claiming to be ‘communist’.

A way to prevent authoritarianism is the division of powers, but that only works until the enemies of the people work together to take over all divided powers.

The only system that has proven to work in the public’s best interest so far is social democracy. But even that is hanging by a thread, as it requires higher levels of public education and better control over corruption to maintain.

  • Daycare is free where I live. It has to be. You can’t expect people to pay for public services themselves; that’s done with taxes. Corporations can’t have customers or employees without people, and to get people to make more people, you have to make it easier for them. So what makes the most sense is cutting corporation porfits, which they don’t need past a limit if they aren’t investing in things that will benefit the public. So if a corporation isn’t doing anything good, raise their taxes, use them to pay for daycare.

  • Yeah. All GW1 pretty much needs at this point is just the Beyond chapter of Elona and 2 professions unique to Prophecies, one heavy armor, one medium armor. And having Prophecies and Factions weapon drops updated to the new system used in Nightfall and EotN, with inscriptions and more upgrades, and making the upgrades have fixed stats like armor upgrades, so they can get their own trader NPC.
And then rig the trader NPCs to always have supllies at a premium cost so GW1’s economy does not depend on bots to stay supplied.

There’s no way we’ll ever see new professions , and I doubt they’ll ever update the weapon drops. But they have already done some new quests. So there’s still a bit of hope for “Rise of Joko”.

  • Yeah. Tankies always forget you can’t have socialism without democracy, and either no government or a government that is strictly from the bottom up, and fascists gladly play along with that facade as it works in their interests.

    “Authoritarian communism” is an oxymoron.

And not an “emphasis” kind of oxymoron like “bittersweet” or “impossible solution”, or a “poetic” kind like “living dead”.
An “absolutely impossible” kind of oxymoron. like “married bachelor” or “squared circle”.

  • It’s a simplistic statement, but it’s not meant to be that broad, it’s meant to be taken for this type of practice.

If everyone lived off leeching off someone else or from being middlemen, without producing anything, there would only be money moved with no products, labor, or services.

It’s not meant to be applied to something like “what if everyone’s business was just opening a pub?”. The economy would be destroyed without diversification and many kinds of businesses. But being a landlord isn’t anything like that. Particularly those that won’t freaking repair anything wrong with the house, just take their checks and the tenant is on their own.

  • The American politicians basically barred the ability for any other party to get into power, until people gave up going to vote, and fascism won by a third of the votes.

It all started before the Red Scare. The moment the Robber Barons got their plans thwarted, they started planning so it would never happen again, and they played the long, long game.
