The person I am replying to claims he also blames the right for these things, but not once in his comment history has he ever called them out like he calls out the left.

Yes, it is how its always worked that if you go through immigration and you get flagged for something suspicious you get detained for further questioning. Did you expect the immigration officer to let you through if you failed the initial set of questions like "where will you be staying for the duration of your trip? "
Let me throw this back at you for a sec. How exactly do you are the Trump administration organizing this? Did they suddenly hire a bunch of new immigration officers? Among the hiring and spending freeze and stupid Doge stuff, where did these new officers come from? Do the officers now have some detained quota they need to meet each day? Are all TSA secretly MAGA waiting for the chance to deny tourists?
Sometimes the simplest explanation is right in front of you. The girls were too truthful on their form and that for them flagged and detained. You need to account for where you will be while in the US ( or most countries honestly). Otherwise it is assumed you might do something like try to work and stay long term beyond your visa. When their answers didn’t add up they got sent home.
If you don’t believe this go ahead and try and travel to any country and tell them you don’t have a place to stay yet, don’t know when you will leave exactly, but you’ll just wing it. See if that flies.
This really doesn’t seem like something the administration has a hand in.
When you travel internationally and land the first thing that happens is you fill out a slip go through immigration. The slip asks how long you are staying and where your are staying among other things.
Not accounting for your accommodations for the full duration of your trip will get you flagged for more questions. If the immigration officer things you are going to work during your stay they will deny you because it’s illegal on a tourist visa.
What the girls should have done was just say they were staying at the hotel for the whole time (although 5 weeks at a hotel is probably also a red flag)

I’m glad he is doing this because i agree with this strategy, but can someone explain to me why the online political strategists (in this case lemmy) seem to approve Bernie reaching across the aisle but seem appalled when Kamala tried to do the same?

Housing prices aren’t even insane, especially outside of Tokyo. And the property prices don’t even go up. AND you can get 35 year housing loans at under 1% interest. The main reason housing prices have gone up at all is that construction materials cost have gone up due to inflation, Ukraine war, covid supply and demand issues.
No one dumb and selfish enough to vote for Trump will care about the suffering of people outside the US.

My reply addresses this with your 2nd point. What I’m trying to say is that maybe the market did factor in the fuckery and has so far believed it to be a nothing burger.
Everyone could be wrong, of course, but so far that is what the markets indicates. So naturally the follow up questions should be, are the markets wrong? Or am I (OP) consuming too much media from my bubble which is overexaggerating the doom and gloom?

Why hasn’t the market dropped yet with all the fuckery going on in DC? Because the impact of said fuckery has not occurred yet. Let this be a chance for some awareness of your own personal information bubble and possible over doom scrolling.
This is not saying this administration isn’t going to cause some terrible shit. It just hasn’t stuck yet. Nothing the administration has done has prevented Microsoft or Google or Netflix from collecting their subscription fees. The closest thing so far has been tariffs that came and went.
But if you are facing mental health issues and a free or inexpensive AI that is available and doesn’t burden your friends actually helps you, do you really care about your information and being profited from?
Put it this way, if Google was being super transparent with you and said, “we’ll help treat you, and in exchange we use your info to make a few thousand dollars.” Will you the individual say, “no thanks I’d rather pay a few hundred per therapy session instead”?
Even if you hate it, you have to admit it’s hard to say no. Especially if it works.
