Unfortunately, been there and got the t-shirt. “Hey, it seems like you’ve got a lot to work on and I do too, I don’t think this is a good time to pursue this”
I think it’s more nuanced than that as the technologies needs time to mature and the supply chains need time to establish. The price of renewables, especially solar and wind, has plummeted faster than anyone ever expected, so arguably it’s cheaper (economically) now.
There’s also the saying “the best time to buy a house is always 50 years ago, the second best time is now”. I don’t see much benefit in regretting yesterday’s decisions.
Little to none so far. This might change in the future, but not that quickly.
The additional renewable capacity added year on year is not enough to cover the additional electrical load, which originates mainly from 2 things: transport/infrastructure (including EVs, data centres, AI) & environmental loads (more heatwaves in populated cities, where people then need to cool).
As far as I understood, 2024 was a substantial year for the environmental side of the equation, otherwise additional renewables installations would have been able to cover just about all the additional power load.
$0.50 says that the “reveal” was part of the study protocol. I.e. “how people react to being knowingly vs. unknowingly manipulated”.
There are a number of them, but they are typically more expensive. Avocadostore is German based and shows quite a few.
There was one case in the last 3 years that I thought about getting one. I started running and hated having to need my phone on me and needed a watch either way.
Then I went to dinner and saw how a friend was continuously and unconsciously flicking their eyes down at their smartwatch every few minute if they weren’t talking and decided against it. I’m getting old…
The ethics board does not approve the message.
Is this not simply covered by elasticity? E.g. if housing was $50,000 a month, most people would be homeless, even if it is a “need”.
I mean… It does apply though?.. It shouldn’t, but it does.
That’s somehow even worse than my original mental image. Great work science!
No problem, just note shipping times can be higher than other stores. Also be sure to use the EU domain (linsoul.de) otherwise customs duties may be added :)
Check out linsoul if you are in the EU or massdrop if you are in the US.
There are a huge amount of basic, low cost earphone manufacturers. The budget audiophile community can also provide more targeted help if needed, just be sure to include more info like price range, how you plan to use the headphones and what quality you expect, to get more helpful advice.
I’m currently using a €25 set which have almost identical sounds quality to my €200 headphones in many situations.
*Edited because apparently I can’t spell…
I understand the sentiment you are going for, but I think it is a little cheap regarding the opinion of 300 million+ people.
In my horribly narrow opinion, the American freedom is simply the freedom to choose. Nothing more, nothing less. The freedom to own a tiger, buy a tank or be “Florida man” for a day.
It is not “free” from manipulation and sometimes it really feels like a 5 year old choosing to do the opposite of the right thing just “because”.
Sidenote: I ABSOLUTELY do not think it is the best way to build a nurturing society, but I get why it has such a passionate supporter base.
I have a Clara 2E. It was some time ago, so I cannot remember all the fine details, but I couldn’t get mine to start without some internet connection. I gave a throwaway email and allowed it to update before I switched off WiFi and could freely move books with Calibre.
To it’s credit, in 3 years since purchase it has not asked for internet since switching it on the first time.
You are correct, re-loading the aurora store after shifting my vpn to the target country (and anonymous login) seems to change the aurora storefront too :)
Some apps are not available in my Google store due to geoblocking. Can aurora circumvent this? Or is it a front end of the “local” google play store?
I do not understand why German mobile data is so heinously expensive!
E.g. in Austria https://www.hot.at/tarife.html
The mech wars are coming, aren’t they?!
I have little to contribute, but could you please share your date sources for the numbers started?
I would be interested to see how salary data could be aggregated reliably in countries with significant differences in population.
