I don’t even wish my mother a happy mother’s day, because whenever mother’s day is brought up she rants about how it was made big by florists and the Nazis (this is actually true for Germany). She is a great mother though and she knows I think so.
He worked 500000 times as hard as other people! It’s well deserved! If you worked 168 hours a week instead of 40, and 120000 times as hard, you could easily make that, too.
I’d also like to point out that with an app, you don’t just hire a programmer, they make an app and done. You have to maintain it. (Although many companies with “smart” products with apps skip this part, so I’m sure it’s fine /s)
Serious question: Do people share their lemmy account with others irl?
Not even my closest friends and family know my username let alone random strangers. And I intend to keep it that way.
I’m also not sure if it’s what OP is looking for, but I also think Fall of Civilisations is not quite as dry as other history podcasts.
He does a great job of painting a picture through the narration, making you imagine what it would be like to have lived in those times. And he sometimes does add his personal takes (always clearly pointed out as personal takes).
It might still be too narrative for OP, but it might also be colourful enough.
In addition to what others here have already said: Sometimes what they gain is a feeling of power and/or control.
This can play a role in the vicious cycle of abuse. People feel powerless because they are abused. To regain power they abuse others. Then they are the ones in control of the situation.
Everyone is saying undersalt things, but I’m assuming, that you don’t even have a clue whether a teaspoon of salt would be undersalting or oversalting. You should get someone to show you what a “normal” amount of salt is per person. It won’t be perfect but at least edible.
I was wondering the same. We are sliding further right and into populism every year. If we are the “leading democracy” that’s bad news for the world.
It’s missing the “No, but I get paid for this, so I should probably work on it anyway” option
Let’s just say both of them are horrible human beings.
I certainly agree with that. You make a good point.
Agreed. As a white German woman myself, I can tell you that we are very used to being above any suspicion. I have been waved on in every traffic control and border check I’ve ever been in.
Also the German passport is one of the strongest in the world, we can basically go wherever we want when travelling. And now suddenly the US of all places is a country we have to be cautious in.
This is of course a very privileged position to be in, but they are teenagers, they probably haven’t had to think about that until now.
Look, as much as I dislike Rowling’s terf bullshit, I haven’t heard of any human trafficking allegations involving her.
What @Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org said seems to be correct, they apparently have some problems right now, I can’t reach the website. It worked yesterday, when I posted the link. I’ll try again later to link some I like, I hope they are able to resolve the problems soon.
There’s also LibriVox for audiobooks of public domain books read by volunteers. They vary in quality but some of my favourite audiobooks are from there.
In German, Teams used to show people as “kostenlos” which does mean “free” but in the sense of “free of charge”, not “available”. They fixed it eventually but it caused much confusion with people asking if there are times when the calls are not free of charge.
My personal Teams translation highlight was a hint explaining to me how I could reorder a list. It said “Nachbestellung hier”. Which again does mean “reorder here” but reorder as in the thing you do when you buy the same thing again, a repeat order.
What about “glom of nit” though?
Yeah, the stylist looks like “WTF are you doing? Do I come to your job and take photos of you?”
No, I need more empty jars! What else should I put in all those neat empty boxes I collected?
If you want to start a new line, you can either type three spaces at the end of the line or a backslash. I think it should work on all clients, but I’m not sure.
