No, no. Don’t you dare go to warp on a workout joke!
Handles@leminal.spaceto Fediverse@lemmy.world•Lemmy's gaining popularity, so I thought new people should see this.English0·7 months agoJust to weigh in here with a bit of political nuance — “tankies” are certainly defined by their leftist politics, but moreso by their apologist defense of regimes that more or less transparently use socialist or communist maxims as a cover for state capitalism or straight out autocracy.
Tankies may be the loudest voices to claim themselves Marxist or socialist, but please don’t mistake them as actually representing those ideologies truthfully or completely. Personally, I see tankies as more indebted to a cold war-style school of Soviet dogma transplanted to current autocracies. Marx and Trotsky would have rolled their eyes at either.
I was referring to the “just skip the hosting step” part. You may be right about Joplin but you’re wrong about the suggestion.
Handles@leminal.spaceto Linux@lemmy.ml•Sell us on your favorite exotic/niche distroEnglish2·10 months agoThree days and nobody mentioned TempleOS? If attempting to build The Third Temple in the form of an OS isn’t niche and exotic, I don’t know what is. 🤣
Great suggestion in !selfhosted@lemmy.world…
So, classic webring navigation consists of arrows to the next and previous ring instances, as well as a link to the ring index. By their nature, webrings are manageable-sized communities by nature. I don’t see how that can be improved upon by a search function?
other structures probably have a lot to provide here, especially if they’re amenable to some basic search facility
I got real excited about the webring returning. This… not so much. Keep it simple.
Handles@leminal.spaceto Linux@lemmy.ml•Which CLI app/utility you wish there was a GUI for?English61·10 months agoPandoc, for sure. I love its versatility, it’s made it super easy for me to do most of my writing in markdown — and a lot of MD editors have it built-in as an export feature.
But I use it too rarely to know the CLI commands by heart, and sometimes it would just be super helpful to open a GUI and batch convert (and/or collate) a bunch of files to a new format.
Tell you what, throw Imagemagick and maybe a light OCR backend into the package as a Swiss Army Knife for document management, I’d probably be happy.
Handles@leminal.spaceto Linux@lemmy.ml•Sell us on your favorite exotic/niche distroEnglish3·10 months agoI know this might be asking for trouble, but how does BunsenLabs compare to CB++? I know they both came out of Crunchbang but I went with BL when that died.
These days I’m on EndeavourOS, but I still use Openbox instead of DEs and customize it to look as much like Crunchbang as possible 😄
Edit: also, I feel naked without Conky on my desktop.
Handles@leminal.spaceto Fediverse@lemmy.world•I think thread deletion is problematic and needs some consideration and changesEnglish416·10 months agoA quick look in the modlog shows that less than a year ago moderators deleted a post you wrote called
Reddit is dangerous. The admins are out of control. Humanity needs a viable alternative. – Blog covering the Reddit admins retaliating against me
(The emphasis is mine)
Looks like you have a history of writing inflammatory posts, feeling persecuted about them being removed, and then going off on rants about it.
Some people may take a dump in public spaces, but don’t call for changes to civic statutes so that their shit can be preserved for perpetuity. Please follow that example.
Handles@leminal.spaceto Linux@lemmy.ml•where to buy linux stickers in europe?English172·10 months agoI found some from Red Bubble. They print and ship regionally so the stickers will never have too far to travel. Just opt out of their newsletters and email offers or you’ll be flooded with superfluous tripe.
Ah oui, c’est vrai certainnement! Didn’t know ML is Europe-based but that explains it.
Suppose it’s a sign that whatever anti-tracking precautions you’ve taken are working? You have Google guessing rather than knowing where in the world you are.
Oh, you know… to enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.
(I just stopped clicking youtube links on here, most of it is hot and/or dumb takes for superficial engagement)

Handles@leminal.spaceto Piracy: ꜱᴀɪʟ ᴛʜᴇ ʜɪɢʜ ꜱᴇᴀꜱ@lemmy.dbzer0.com•How often do you consume the stuff you pirate? How do you avoid "hoarding"?English5·10 months agoA) Almost every day. I have a constant backlog/watchlist but it’s small and fairly constant.
B) Once or twice a year I go over my media and delete movies or shows that I’m definitely not watching again. I am hoarding, though only the good stuff. Nothing wrong with that.
There’s enough fucks to go around, for sure.
It’s just the inevitable exploitation of any word that van be randomly put next to “economy”. It’s a bullshit con is why.
